MEC Ghishma Barry launches AB350 Bus Operations Phase 2 and roll out of the e-Natis helpdesk in Chris Hani district

1 July 2009

As part of the Public Service Week Programme, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport and Safety Ms Ghishma Barry will launch the Africa’s Best 350 Ltd Bus Operations Phase 2 and Rollout of the e-Natis Helpdesk in the Chris Hani District on Friday, 3 July 2009.

This follows a pronouncement made by MEC Barry through her policy speech two weeks ago that this rural areas’ bus passenger service would commence in the Chris Hani District with 18 buses to service 17 routes in Lady Frere, Cofimvaba, Indwe and Queenstown.

A total of 48 people have already been appointed in Queenstown as drivers, cleaners, conductors and managers.

The programme of the day will commence with the launch of the e-Natis Helpdesk at the Department of Roads and Transport District Office in Queenstown at 09h00. This was also pronounced by MEC Barry in her policy speech and the main purpose is to decentralise the helpdesk function or transactions, which mainly involves management of personalised and specific number plates, duplicate documents such as duplicate registration certificates.

At 10h00, MEC Barry will open the Gcala Soyi Access Road in Vaal Bank, which was one of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects and part of the Department’s Inaccessible Roads Programme.

This will be followed by the launch of the AB350 buses at the Vaal Bank Community Hall outside Queenstown.

The MEC will conclude her programme with an Imbizo on community safety at the same venue.
