Premier Kiviet lays down eight priorities for government

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet has today announced that the Eastern Cape Government has developed a Provincial Strategic Framework (PSF) that has eight strategic priorities. Premier Kiviet made in Bhisho where she was delivering her State of the Province Address. The eight priorities she said, are aligned to both the “African National Congress (ANC) Manifesto and to the Programme of Action announced by President Zuma during his State of the Nation Address.

The eight priorities are:

* speeding up growth and transforming the economy to create decent work and sustainable livelihoods
* building social and economic infrastructure
* rural development, land, agrarian reform, and food security
* strengthening education, and building a skills and human resources base
* improving the health profile of the province
* intensifying the fight against crime and corruption
* building a developmental state, improving the public services, and strengthening democratic institutions
* Building a cohesive, caring and sustainable communities

Premier Kiviet said the government will also accommodate matters pertaining to international relations and environmental issues will be integrated to the Provincial Strategic Framework. She said the MECs will on 17 June 2009 elaborate and provide details of what is raised in the State of the Province Address.
