7 May 2009

Ladies and gentlemen

I tender my warm greetings to all of you this afternoon. I am humble to address this first media briefing session in my capacity as the Premier of the Eastern Cape.

This media briefing session is convened to solely deal with the issues of announcement of the Executive Council of the Eastern Cape government.
Eastern Cape government priorities in the next five years are as follows:
* fighting of crime
* health
* education
* poverty
* speed up delivery of houses and
* ensuring that our civil service is committed to serve the people of the Eastern Cape

Hence our approach to appoint Cabinet members will be largely informed by the need to drastically change the pace of delivery to higher levels.

This collective, will work tirelessly to serve the people of this province and ensure that five years ahead of us is an epoch of acceleration of service delivery to the masses of our province and together we can do more.

The length and breath of the province must feel the change that we are beginning to implement in changing their lives for the better.

The esteemed team of men and women are as follows:
1. Local Government and Traditional Affairs: Mr Sicelo Gqobana
2. Finance and Economic Development and Environmental Affairs: Mr Mcebisi Jonas
3. Health: Mr Phumulo Masualle
4. Education: Mr Mahlubandile Qwase
5. Agriculture and Rural Development: Mr Mbulelo Sogoni

7. Social Development: Ms Nonkosi Mvana
8. Housing: Ms. Nombulelo Mabandla

A combination of good men and women in this Executive Council is an indication that this government prioritises issues of women.

In ending, I present this capable team to the people of the Eastern Cape and trust that with their support, nothing will stop us.

I take this opportunity to congratulate Members of the Executive Council (MEC) and wishing them well in their pursuit to change the lives of the Eastern Cape people for the better.
