Department of Trade and Industry to host workshops at Tourism Indaba 2009
6 May 2009
Tourism stakeholders attending the world-renowned Tourism Indaba 2009, from 9 to 12 May, will be equipped with a range of business opportunities and benefits that government has created to bolster growth in this sector. The Indaba will take place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) Spokesperson, Lillian Mofokeng, says the department will make optimal use of this marketing opportunity to attract prospective investment in the country. Two open workshops will be hosted on 10 and 11 May 2009, to create awareness of and encourage the utilisation of the Department of Trade and Industry tourism related products and services among local and international tourism industry stakeholders.
The Department of Trade and Industry agencies to be profiled at the Indaba workshops include the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), Khula Enterprise Finance Ltd (Khula), National Empowerment Fund (NEF), South African Women Empowerment Network (SAWEN), and the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO). The co-operatives development unit of the Department of Trade and Industry will participate in the workshops, and information on the registration of close corporations, companies, co-operatives, trademarks, patents, copyright and designs, will also be provided.
“Presentations from the various agencies of the department will be followed by discussions in which participants will be given an opportunity to pose questions on the incentives offered by these bodies. Stakeholders will also be able to visit the Department of Trade and Industry exhibition stand, where information and assistance will be provided on a one to one basis,” added Lillian Mofokeng.
The Indaba is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar. It showcases the widest variety of Southern Africa's best tourism products, and attracts international visitors and media from across the world.
