Media Statement: North West Provincial Government
29 April 2009
North West Premier, Edna Molewa, has expressed gratitude to the people of the North West for their positive contribution in the recent national and provincial elections.
“By exercising their democratic right to vote for a political party of their choice, the people of the North West have contributed enormously towards the strengthening and consolidation of our young democracy,” said Molewa.
Molewa said that the recent elections were a clear confirmation of a maturing democracy. “By casting their ballot, the people of our country were demonstrating that they did not want to remain passive by-standards in the democratisation and transformation of our society.”
The Premier sad that the critical challenge that remains is for ordinary citizens and their organised formations to continue working with their elected government to ensure ongoing improvements in the quality of people’s lives.
She encouraged communities to play a part in the programmes of government and to help promote participatory democracy. “Acting together with our people, we will be able to effectively address the remaining challenges of poverty, unemployment and service delivery”, she said.
