28 APRIL 2009
Cabinet has on 21 April 2009, approved the National Youth Policy (NYP) 2009 to 2014, laying a foundation for the advancement of youth development in the country by all different role players. The National Youth Commission led the process of developing the NYP 2009 to 2014 which was broadly consulted with different relevant stakeholders
The policy intends to identify gaps in youth development, strengthen the existing interventions, introduce new ones and shed those that do not work. It also specifies services rendered, extend coverage and increase impact. The Policy will also identify imperatives and make recommendations on key youth development interventions on the following areas: education, economic participation, health, social cohesion, national youth service and youth work.
The National Youth Development Agency and different role players in government, non-governmental organisations and private sectors at national, provincial and local levels will ensure the implementation of the National Youth Policy in a cohesive, seamless and integrated manner whilst the Presidency will coordinate and monitor.
