Presidency launches the Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (Jipsa) and Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA) annual reports

The Presidency will tomorrow, 16 April 2009, launch the Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (Jipsa)/ Accelerated Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA) annual reports at the Union Buildings.

The launches will follow a meeting of the JIPSA Task Team Meeting.

The media are invited for a Press conference at the end of the meeting scheduled as follows:

Time: 14h00 (media to arrive at 13h30)

Recap of AsgiSA:

Constraints:
* deficiencies in government capacity
* the volatility of the currency
* low levels of investment infrastructure and infrastructure services
* shortages of suitably skilled graduates, technicians and artisans
* insufficiently competitive industrial and services sectors and weak sector strategies
* inequality and marginalisation, resulting in many economically marginalised people being unable to contribute to and/or share in the benefits of growth and development (the "Second Economy").
