North West mourns the passing of Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri
7 April 2009
North West Premier Edna Bomo Molewa and the entire populace of the province are deeply saddened by the passing away of the Minister of Communications, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri in Pretoria last night.
Premier Molewa said that the role played by the late Minister Matsepe-Casaburri in transforming and shaping the communications landscape in South Africa by opening the airwaves to previously disadvantaged communities will never be forgotten by the people of this country.
“She leaves a legacy for generations to come who will, in decades ahead of us, continue to enjoy the fruits that democracy has brought to their communities such as community-based radio stations across the length and breadth of our country, including the North West Province,” Premier Molewa.
Premier Molewa further urged the people of the North West and South Africa to go out in drove on 22 April to cast their vote to entrench the democracy that committed servants of the people like the late Minister Matsepe-Casaburri fought so hard for.
“Let us, in her memory and those who departed before her, ensure that we strengthen and deepen the democratic institutions that this government has brought about continue to exist as to provide a better life for the majority of our people,” Premier Molewa added.
May her soul rest in peace
