Computer skills to improve pass rate
2 April 2009
The Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mahlubandile Qwase expressed his pleasure at seeing teachers acquiring computer skills at ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Programmes, Sector Education and Training Authority) graduation held at Leadership Institute of Education in East London on 27 March 2009. He said this indicates that there would be an improvement in students’ pass rate.
MEC Qwase urged teachers to utilise their computer skills on a daily basis “so they do not rust as time goes on.” Hopefully you will now cope better on the changes in the new curriculum,” said Qwase.
The ETDP SETA has embarked on a campaign to fight computer illiteracy amongst the Eastern Cape teachers. The lack of computer skills in educators has been a challenge in the province.
Welcoming graduates to the world of technology, Chief Executive Officer, Nombulelo Nxesi said “the success of education in this province is just in your finger tips. Everything which you can think of is possible through this certificate, all you need to do is to work hard up to your maximum potential and remember that hard work never kills.”
Luvo Gazi, Provincial Co-ordinator of ETDP SETA was very excited to see that ETDP SETA assisted about 227 teachers from different districts around the Eastern Cape with computer training skills. The duration of the training was 12 months period. In concurring with MEC Qwase he encouraged graduates to use their new skills to improve learner education.
“I strongly believe the utilisation of computers in your schools will make a vital improvement in both you as educators’ teaching methods and students learning abilities. You are now capable of making education easier by using PowerPoint, and researching via internet will play big role in accessing information,” he concluded.
