Deputy President launched the Blythedale Coastal Resort

1 April 2009

Deputy President Baleka Mbete accompanied by the Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu today, 1 April 2009, launched the Blythedale Coastal Resort (BCR), in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The Blythedale Coastal Resort (BCR) is a flagship programme developed through partnership between government, community and private sector (through eLan Group). The project aims to offer 5 000 residential investment opportunities to the surrounding communities from freehold sites, sectional title apartments and hotel room investments. This will cater for a range of income group.

Through BCR government the private partner (the eLag Group) will have the opportunity to deliver services to the disadvantaged communities through education, skill development and social housing.

According to the Minister of Housing, the BCR will create about 80 000 job opportunities during the construction phase, a 10 000 of these will be permanent.

During her address to the community of KwaDukuza, the Deputy President said that the project symbolises an achievement that government has ever achieved. In that, it was able to bring all role players together, to contribute and work together for a successful resolution on land claim.

She said that, the opportunities broad by this partnership could serve a one of the best model for our country as we strive to address the past imbalance of land.

The Deputy President welcomed the role played by all stakeholders who are involved in the BCR programme and appreciated the opportunities it brings, to change the lives of the people of KwaDukuza.
