Limpopo Department of Local Government and Housing on 1 500 housing unit project

The MEC for Local Government and Housing, Mme Maite Nkoana-Mashabane cordially invites all media houses to the official handover of 1500 housing unit project in Extension 71, 75 and 76 in the Polokwane Municipality. This projects were built at a cost of over R63 million.
Come and witness as the MEC interacts with some of the first white families to benefit from government’s housing programme in Polokwane.
Speeding up the delivery of infrastructure and providing maintenance thereof, is a major part of the department’s program. The 2007 Statistics South Africa survey and provincial 15 year review reports indicate that 81,2% of the people of Limpopo have access to electricity, exceeding the national average. These reports further indicate that no less than 83,6% of the households have access to piped water. This is in addition to 64,5% of households that have access to sanitation, by far exceeding 23,7% national average. Limpopo was recently declared the best performing province in terms of provision of housing in the country, when the Department of Local Government and Housing won the Govan Mbeki Housing Award.
