Premier Sogoni impressed by housing rectification programme
25 March 2009
Eastern Cape Premier Mbulelo Sogoni says he is satisfied with the work that has been done to rectify 1 000 houses in Burgersdorp. Sogoni was speaking during the launch of the Burgersdorp Thusong Service Centre recently.
“These houses were not built correctly and as a caring government we heard your cries. We have corrected the mistakes and we will move with speed to ensure you occupy your houses,” said Premier Sogoni.
After visiting two houses in the township, Sogoni discovered that owners of the Reconstruction Development Programme (RDP) houses were renting their houses out. He warned residents that the government would repossess their houses if they leased them out to tenants. “We will do an audit to find out whether the owners of the houses are still staying in the houses or renting them out. If we find that you renting your house out, we will take it back,” he said.
