30 teachers receive auto Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) certificates

11 March 2009

The Eastern Cape Department of Education’s MEC, the honourable Mahlubandile Qwase, on Friday, 6 March 2009, handed over award certificates to about 23 teachers and subject advisors from all the provincial districts.

The awarding follows a comprehensive training conducted in Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) so that they can offer Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) in each and every district. Additionally, 30 schools will now become centres of learning for EGD until such time that all teachers and schools are trained and equipped, respectively.

Additionally, during the awards laptops, data projectors, projection screens and certificates were handed over for the commencement of the project to 30 of schools.

Depending on the budget stand, it is envisioned that every year until 2014, 30 teachers, composing of one teacher per district will be trained in AutoCAD.

Reflecting on significance of the awards, Qwase implored the recipients to ensure that the equipment is fully utilised to the benefit of the intended beneficiaries. “You must realise now that you are being sent out as our ambassadors, the success of this initiative now rests with you maximising the benefit so that everyone realises the critical role that this kind of technology can bring to learning and teaching in our classrooms,” Qwase said.

Through this training, the provincial education sector seeks to provide the opportunity and experiences that might hedge the chance of a smooth transition from Technical Drawing to Computer Aided Engineering Graphics and Design through proper mobilisation of educators.
