Symposium to discuss high food prices

The Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs, Honourable Lulu Xingwana, invites members of the media to the symposium on high food prices, organised by the Inter-ministerial Committee (IMC). This symposium aims at opening a national discourse on food prices, formulating joint strategies with the business sector as well as civil society, all in an effort to address the food price challenges faced by our communities.
Participants will be drawn from the South African commodity organisations, input suppliers, manufactures (processors) retailers in the food industry and other allied industries in support of the food industry.
The workshop will, through a multi-stakeholder participative process, use the IMC plan of action on food prices that has been approved by cabinet to come up with creative, responsive and practical solutions to address food insecurity and poverty in the country, especially among the vulnerable groups.
Against this background, media is invited to cover the event and give information to the public in this regard. The symposium will take place as follows:
