The MEC for Local Government and Housing, Mme Maite Nkoana-Mashabane together with the Mayor of Lephalale Ms Rosinah Mogotlane, will official hand over an R81 million completed housing project in Marapong Extension 4, Lephalale. In a quest to reduce congested accommodation and eradicate informal settlements in and around Lephalale the department constructed the Marapong extension in Marapong. Close to 1 800 houses have been completed during the current financial year. The local community benefited during the construction of this project with over 2 000 jobs being created. (Both skilled and unskilled labourers were employed.)
Since 1994 our government has build more than 2,7 million homes. Limpopo’s contribution is more than 350 000 homes. It means over 1,4 million people in this province live in homes build by government. The department will soon be developing an Integrated and Sustainable Human Settlement project in the area. We have secured 500 hectares of land for this purpose.
