Deputy Minister Adv Andre Gaum to pay surprise visits to schools in Mamelodi, Wednesday, 14 January 2009

The Deputy Minister of Education, Adv Andre Gaum, will tomorrow, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 conduct surprise visits to schools in Mamelodi Township, Pretoria.
14 January is the reopening of all schools in the inland provinces for 2009. The purpose of the Deputy Minister’s surprise visits is to find out whether the schools are ready for the start of the 2009 school calendar.
Deputy Minister and his entourage will have meetings with both the school management and learners.
Journalists interested in being part of the Deputy Minister’s entourage are requested to gather at the Department of Education’s entrance from 06h30. The delegation will leave the department at 07h00 exactly.

Draft programme is as follows:
07h00: depart from the National Department of Education, 123 Schoeman St, Pretoria
07h25: arrive at school nr 1 in Mamelodi
07h30: meet with principal and or join learners for assembly, followed by an inspection by the Deputy Minister
08h30: depart for school nr 2 in Mamelodi
08h40: arrive at school nr 2
08h45: meet principal and/or join learners for assembly, followed by an inspection by the Deputy Minister
09h45: depart for school nr 3 in Mamelodi
09h55: arrive at school nr 3
10h00: meet with principal and or join learners for assembly, followed by an inspection by the Deputy Minister
11h00: media briefing and questions.
11h20: departure
