MEC Cele to host a Public Transport Indaba at Esikhawini

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki Cele will tomorrow, Tuesday, 14 October 2008, host a Public Transport Indaba to be held at Esikhawini College, Umfolozi FET at 09h00. Also expected to attend the Indaba are the KwaZulu-Natal Taxi Council (Kwanataco), KwaZulu-Natal Bus Council (Kwanabuco), Public Transport Passenger Association, taxi operators, bus operators and the community at large.

The stakeholders will be raising their concerns regarding their operations and other issues related to the MEC, and also coming with solutions, views of changing things for the better. The community is also expected to raise their concerns and views on any public transport related matter.

The MEC will then after address the audience and give answers and a way forward to any issues raised. This will help by improving the public transport system for the better and ready for 2010 and beyond.

"This indaba will help improve the relationship the department has with its stakeholders as is inline with our mission statement of providing the public with a safe, integrated, regulated, affordable and accessible transport action system. We embark in promoting a transparent and accountable government plan in accordance with the needs of our customers and ensure effective, efficient and transparent delivery of services through the appropriate involvement of the public and through regular and active reporting," said Cele.
