Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Firoz Cachalia to honour gender safety ambassadors at the closing event of 16 Days of Activism

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Firoz Cachalia, will tomorrow honour the volunteers who attended the training on gender based violence during the 16 Days period at the ceremony to be held at the Multi-Purpose Community Centre in Meadowlands.
The training attended by more than 1 000 volunteers including professionals, South African Police Service (SAPS) personnel, disabled persons and youth at risk, was meant to raise awareness on gender based violence.
Amongst other things taught to volunteers include: alternative ways to handle conflict and to respond to the victims' needs. The trainees have begun to render their services at various centres across Gauteng which includes Ikhaya Lethemba Centre, 130 Victim Empowerment Centres located within the SAPS and satellite stations, homes for disabled and elderly.
The ceremony forms part of 16 Days of Activism closing events to be held across Gauteng by various government departments and stakeholders. The trainees will receive certificates and formal identity for interaction with communities as gender safety ambassadors.
