Reconciliation: fun-filled concert day

The Department of Arts and Culture has planned a bigger, better and brighter concert on Reconciliation Day to highlight and promote its 2010 cultural programme. The event will take place next Tuesday, 16 December 2008, at the Union Buildings grounds from 08h00 till 17h00.
It will be characterised by a meet-and-greet session will leading figures of the Local Organising Committee who will include officials, legends and other superstars.
Over 30 000 people, including VIP guests, artists, families and ordinary folks are expected to flock to the venue for what has become one of the most popular cultural events.
In fact, an open invitation is extended to the public to come together and enjoy the day. Families are urged to bring their blankets, cushions, chairs and picnic baskets. There is a promising line-up of diverse artists, music and dance from all backgrounds to make sure that the event appeals to all the people.
Significantly, different genre of music will be performed on three stages catering for all tastes, including pop, hip-hop and indigenous styles. The day would begin with a festival street parade featuring hundreds of bikers. They will take off from Sammy Marks Square to end at the Union Buildings lawn.
Also, there will be a celebration of all the cultures of our population, including gymnasts, Chinese dragon dancers, stilt walkers, fire eaters and an open bus.
In addition, there will be a safe, fully equipped, fun-filled kiddies area complete with child minders where parents can leave their children whilst enjoying the entertainment on offer.
Besides the music and dance on three stages, there are literary and book exhibition, beautiful things exhibition (craft market) and motor bike exhibition.
This is a wonderful opportunity of meeting fellow like-minded people and enjoying a great concert.
