Minister Baloyi holds stakeholder Imbizo in Limpopo
25 November 2008
The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi met with a range of stakeholders to engage on service delivery issues in the Capricorn and Vhembe Disricts of the Limpopo province on 24 November 2008. The stakeholders were inclusive of members of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), School Governing Bodies (SGBs), ward committees, political parties and other community structures.
This meeting was convened by Mr Baloyi as an interactive forum whereby members of the community could be free to talk to their government leaders on issues of service delivery in their districts. The Minister stressed the importance of such meetings as they take the powers to govern the state back to the people and help accomplish the 'freedom charter' clause of 'the people shall govern'.
The outcome was that certain challenges were identified and strategies to address these are going to be developed by the different municipal offices, working together with the departments of Public Service and Administration and Local and Provincial Government. Amongst the main and most common concerns raised by the communities of the two districts were the issues of a lack of water in the province; RDP housing delivery was also named as a challenge, together with the need for local economic development.
The meeting provided the communities of Capricorn as well as Vhembe with the reassurance that they matter to the South African Government and that their voices were being heard.
