Invitation to attend the Free State Child Abuse Indaba
24 November 2008
The Free State Department of Health and its partners against Child Abuse hereby extend an invitation to the 2008 Child Abuse Indaba.
The Department of Health in partnership with the Department of Social Development, National Prosecution Authority, Population Council and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Programme within the province will be conducting the Child Abuse Indaba. The purpose is to streamline relationships between services for the prevention and the management of child abuse in the province.
Previously, the child abuse programme has been mingled with other programmes and a need to treat this challenge on its own, was noticed. Children have been identified as vulnerable to abuse and the aim is to ensure that they get all the attention they will need.
The indaba will also mark the 16 days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign which is celebrated annually from 25 November to 10 December. This campaign is a government initiative to eliminate abuse of women and children. It looks at restoring human dignity within the context of safer and more secure families and communities.
