Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Enver Surty visit the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) and Free State division judiciary

Minister Enver Surty will on Friday, 21 November 2008, visit the Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA) and the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein. This is part of his routine visit to the courts in all parts of the country, to get first hand experience of the challenges facing the courts and what immediate interventions may be made to ensure that court users are enabled to have access to justice.
Last Friday he visited the Constitutional Court and met with the Chief Justice and justices of the court. This week he will visit the Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA), the Free State High Court and the Bloemfontein Magistrate's court where he will meet Heads of the Courts, judicial officers and other role players in the justice sector including the prosecutors and legal aid board officials.
Some of the matters that will be discussed during the two meetings include:
* language usage in court (multilingualism)
* renaming of the High Courts
* re-designation of 24 branch courts as full service courts
* status of the Superior Courts Bill
There will also be a briefing on the following legislation:
* Judicial Service Commission Amendment Bill
* Judicial Education Institute Bill
* Traditional Court Bill
* Amendment of Jurisdiction of Regional Courts
