Official launch of the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) website in KwaZulu-Natal

The Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr Roy Padayachie will officially launch of the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) website in KwaZulu-Natal on 21 November 2008. The Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) work-programme with the traditional leaders, which is being implemented over three years, is focused on the following areas of work:
* Development of websites for the National House of Traditional Leaders, the (eight) provincial and forty-nine local houses of traditional leaders.
* Digitisation of information for the provincial houses of traditional leaders.
* Monthly stakeholder engagement forums in the form of provincial roadshows.
Websites have been developed and are live for all the eight provincial houses of traditional leaders. The website addresses are as follows:

The Department of Communications (DoC) is currently in a process of finalising contracts with e-co-operatives trained by Institute of Satellite and Software Applications (ISSA) as well as the e-cadres that were trained by the DOC through the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) programme to render the following services to the provincial houses of traditional leaders:
* Technical support in respect of the websites, including content development and updates as well as maintenance thereof.
* Providing technical support in respect of information technology (IT) needs of provincial houses of traditional leaders.
* Provide on-going, on-site training for the traditional leaders to utilize information communication technologies (ICTs).
The strategic intent of government's is to make available government information and services on line and promote national identity and social cohesion through the use of ICTs. Also, to ensure that people are empowered for self-employment, prioritising the youth. Underpinning the achievement of all of these objectives is the need to invest in infrastructure as well as research and development.

* Members of the Executive Committee of the national house
* Chairpersons and their deputy chairpersons of the provincial houses
* Two members each of the 49 local houses
