Quality in public healthcare under the spotlight as Hogan and Deputy Minister Dr Molefi Sefularo address Indaba

"Along with improving our services for those with HIV and Aids and tuberculosis (TB), improving the quality of care we offer will be one of government's top priorities over the coming period," said Health Minister Barbara Hogan in announcing the National Indaba due to take place on Friday, 21 November 2008, in Birchwood Conference Centre, Ekurhuleni.

The Indaba, expected to be attended by about 140 partners in the field of improving quality in healthcare together with 80 national and provincial managers is expected to come up with a National Quality Assurance and improvement programme which is aimed at improving the quality of care in public health facilities.

Among the many stakeholders expected to participate in the Indaba are health Members of Executive Council, representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), USAID, Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and academics.

Health Minister Ms Barbara Hogan and her Deputy Dr Molefi Sefularo are scheduled to address delegates at the indaba on their department's plans to improve the quality of care in the public health sector. "I remain confident that with all of this work that we are doing and the support from the many stakeholders we will see some improvement in the delivery of quality healthcare in our country," says Hogan.
