Limpopo Agribusiness Academy empowers emerging farmers

Limpopo MEC for Agriculture, Mme Dikeledi Magadzi will award certificates to 180 emerging small-scale livestock, fruit and vegetable farmers. The farmers received training in Animal Health Management and Export Market Readiness. Farmers learnt diagnosis of sick animals, with emphasis on major diseases and parasites causing loss of production and mortality in cattle, sheep and goats. The training also covered export requirements and standards for the European Union (GLOBAL GAP/ EUROGAP), negotiating for markets, developing a market plan strategy and conducting market analysis.

The training was conducted at Tompi Seleka and Madzivhandila Agricultural Training Centres. The training was initiated by Limpopo Agribusiness Development Academy (LADA), which is a joint venture between Limpopo Department of Agriculture (LDA) and Flemish Government through its Flanders International Co-operation Agency (FICA).

LADA provided the training in collaboration with its service provider and partner; Afrivet and South African Agri-Academy (SAAA) respectively. During the certificate awarding ceremony, the MEC will also distribute 50 livestock remedy boxes each with a reference handbook on livestock diseases to livestock farmers association whose members participated in the training.

The certificate awarding ceremony will take place as follows:
