Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto extends his condolences to Mama Afrika (Miriam Makeba)
11 November 2008
Premier Sello Moloto has joined the rest of the country in paying his respects to Africa's queen of song, Miriam Makeba. The premier extends his condolences to Makeba's family, her friends as well as her colleagues in the music industry. "Makeba was not only a South African born musician, but also a citizen of the world. Having spent close to 30 years in exile, Makeba's footprints can still be traced today in almost every continent of the world. It therefore did not surprise us when she was named both the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) ambassador and South Africa's own goodwill ambassador."
"She will be surely missed for her promotion of African cultural heritage through song, particularly on the world stage. We will also remember her for her sterling role and participation in the cultural boycott against apartheid, especially for the pioneering address she made in 1966 to the United Nations General Assembly on the plight of black South Africans under apartheid. For this, all of us will remain forever indebted to her."
Robala ka kgotso Mama Afrika! May her soul rest in peace!
