Department of Housing and Local Government celebrates Izimbizo week 2008

The second annual izimbizo focus week is scheduled to take place from 1 to 8 November 2008. The Izimbizo week will be used as a communication platform to strengthen and extend the existing partnerships for faster implementation of the Government Programme of Action. Furthermore, it is a forum for enhancing dialogue and interaction between senior government executives and ordinary people.
The theme for the izimbizo Week 2008 is "It is time make a difference". The key focus area will be the 2010 Soccer World Cup projects across the social legacy, safety and security, justice, health and disaster management infrastructure development themes. These projects are used by government as a catalyst for development and service delivery.
The key messages for the izimbizo week are
* South Africa is ready and will deliver a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup
* The public, especially the poor has been adversely affected by the increase in food prices and inflation at large
* Government calls on all communities and organizations to act against crime.
There will also be focus on the "War on poverty" within the context of the APEX priorities outlined in the State of the Nation Address.
In the spirit of izimbizo week, Mr JF van Wyk, Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Housing and Local Government in the Northern Cape province, will be having an izimbizo event in Colesberg, in the Umsobomvu Municipality which is located in the Pixley-Ke-Seme District Municipality of the Northern Cape. The izimbizo is scheduled as follows:

Venue: Kuyasa community hall, Colesberg
The focus of the izimbizo will be on the status of service delivery in the area. The Executive Mayor of the Pixley-Ke-Seme District Municipality, the Mayor of Umsobomvu Municipality and local councillors will be part of the izimbizo to get first hand information on the present state of affairs of the community and the area.
