Minister for Agriculture Lulu Xingwana has today launched Ilima/Letsema at Phokwane Municipality's town of Hartswater in the Northern Cape's Francis Baard District

26 October 2008

The Minister started by visiting the identified poor households where she planted fruit trees. She also visited the olives oils trees project run by 11 young people.

Thereafter, Minister Xingwana addressed members of the Phokwane community where she announced the allocation of R45 million for the rehabilitation of Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme and tea processing. In addition she announced the allocation of R76 million from Treasury to assist projects for food security and increasing food production.

The Minister also launched an agricultural manual green book which is to be utilised for extension services as a tool to ensure efficient extension support to commercial and emerging farmers. The green book will also enable the Department of Agriculture to monitor the frequency of the visitations by the Extension Officers.

The next stop for the launch trail is Jaggesfontein in the Free State on 1 November 2008 and followed by Limpopo on 8 November 2008 at the Makhuduthamaga Municipality.
