The North West Provincial Government has begun embarking on a week long Imbizo Focus Week as of 20 to 26 October 2008 and has been so far attended by Premier Edna Molewa and the entire executive council, whereby government has interacted with members of the public on matters relating to governance and service delivery.

On Monday, Premier Molewa visited Tlaakgameng village near Ganyesa in the Kagisano Local Municipality.

Be advised that the following areas will be visited by Premier Molewa as the Imbizo Focus Week will be reaching conclusion.

It should, however, be noted that the Ventersdorp (Tsing) Imbizo scheduled for 23 October 2008 has been postponed until further notice. The October Imbizo Focus Week takes place under the core message and theme of "It is time make a difference."

The 2008 Imbizo continues focus on the advancement of key government priorities. It serves, among other things, as a platform to assess the extent to which government programmes, across all spheres, have been able to respond to the needs of people with disabilities, women, youth and children.

The October Imbizo Focus Week further entails a visit to service delivery projects, with special emphasis on projects reflecting apex priorities. Within this context, the Imbizo will assist to profile the 24 apex priorities.

The Imbizo programme has been part of government's programme of action for many years. It seeks to promote participatory democracy and public accountability. In addition, it serves as a platform, both to account to the public on how government is implementing its programme of action as well as to ensure the participation of citizens in the implementation of government's programme of action.
