Member of Executive Council (MEC) Barry to open a R240 million Sulenkama hospital road this weekend
22 October 2008
As part of the 2008 October Transport Month and Imbizo Focus Week programmes, Eastern Cape MEC for Roads and Transport Ms Gloria Barry will officially open the Sulenkama hospital road worth R240 million on Saturday, 25 October 2008 at 10h00.
The road was previously gravel and has now been upgraded to surfaced standard in order to service the Sulenkama hospital. This upgrade forms part of the Department of Roads and Transport hospital roads programme, which focuses on improving the quality of roads leading to hospitals and priority is given to hospitals with over 200 beds that do not have all weather roads and bad roads without any bridges. All the identified hospital roads that are or will be upgraded are in the former Transkei region.
