Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture N Botha speaks at the fifth National Oral History Conference

The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Ntombazana Botha and the Eastern Cape MEC of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Ms Noxolo Abraham-Ntantiso invite members of the media to the opening ceremony of the fifth National Oral History Conference.
The Department of Arts and Culture will host the fifth Annual National Oral History Conference under the theme Hidden Voices, Untold Stories and Veiled Memories.
The conference is organised in partnership with the Oral History Association of South Africa (OHASA) and the provincial Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture. The conference will take place on 7 to 10 October 2008 in the Eastern Cape province. Various speakers will focus on different topics including memories of the struggle, family and gender, community histories, and history and heritage.
Speaking at a media briefing in King Williamstown, Deputy Minister Botha said, "Through these conferences and programmes we hope to assist communities in retrieving neglected indigenous and community knowledge and to create awareness about the value of oral history and oral tradition."
