Accelerated housing delivery in Mafikeng

The government housing delivery programme has ended thirty-five years of homelessness for a 72 years old pensioner in Danville outside Mafikeng. Joe Mather, the proud recipient of a Breaking New Ground house gave the programme a thumps-up when North West MEC for Developmental Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa visited Danville and Imperial Reserve Housing Development Project on Wednesday.
The pensioner is a proud recipient of new 45 square meters low cost house build according to Breaking New Ground (BNG) new norms and standards The roof tiled house has two bedrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen with a zinc, a bathroom with toilet, basin and bath. BNG houses under construction in the area are bigger in size as compared to Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses.
"I am very happy to finally have a house of my own .The African National Congress (ANC) government has restored my dignity which was denied by the apartheid government and the erstwhile Bophuthatswana Bantustan government" Mather told MEC Yawa and the Executive Mayor of Mafikeng, Councillor Mosa Sejosengoe.
The project site visit is part of "A Re Ageng Mzasi" National Housing Week which commenced on Monday to showcase the exceeded effort by the Provincial Department of Developmental Local Government and Housing's to accelerate housing delivery in the province.
In line with MEC Yawa's declaration of "the year of dust", the BNG Housing Project in Danville is targeted for completion by the end of this month. Phase two of Imperial Reserve (Ext 38) Housing Development Project for the construction 1 259 BNG houses has commenced at an accelerated pace.
