2 October 2008
The recently appointed Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Mr Richard Baloyi, wishes to "express my unequivocal appreciation to the President of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe and the leadership of the African National Congress for their inspired leadership and the confidence that they have placed in me by appointing me to this portfolio," said Minister Baloyi.
He would further like to acknowledge the significant achievements of his predecessor, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi with whom he has had a long and productive working relationship.
Minister Baloyi stressed that it was business unusual as usual at the Ministry of Public Service and Administration and its portfolio including State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Government Employee Medical Scheme (GEMS), Public Administration Leadership and Management Academy (PALAMA), the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI), and the Public Service Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA).
"I am not here to introduce new policies but to join you as a partner as we continue on our journey toward the acceleration of service delivery and the achievement of governments programme of action", said Minister Baloyi during his first address to the portfolio on Tuesday.
Minister Baloyi added, "In the spirit of the Tsonga tradition, 'Tikhomana mincila', which means working together, sharing knowledge and experience, I take up the reins of this portfolio as a Minister and above all a servant of the public."
Minister Baloyi, an ANC MP, hails from Giyani in Limpopo and was the former Chairperson of the National Assembly Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration.
