Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ngconde Balfour distances himself and plans to take action following inappropriate handling of Hani murderers' parole hearings
1 October 2008
The Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Ngconde Balfour, has distanced himself from an e-mail sent by a junior official ostensibly in his name to Hani family regarding parole hearings of Chris Hani's murderers.
Minister Balfour regards the manner in which the matter of Clive Derby-Lewis and Janus Walus' parole appearance was handled inappropriate and plans to investigate the matter and take appropriate corrective action. Minister Balfour fully agrees with the Hani family, South African Communist Party (SACP), African National Congress (ANC) and millions of South Africans about the seriousness of the matter.
The Minister would also like to apologise to the Hani family, the SACP, the whole alliance and the people of South Africa for the inappropriate handling of the issue of parole hearings for Derby-Lewis and Walus.
