Official handing over of title deeds in Lepelle-Nkumpi district

In celebrating heritage month 2008, the Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing, Mme Maite Nkoana Mashabane invites all media to the official hand over of title deeds to beneficiaries in Lepelle-Nkumpi district.
The Housing Act 107 of 1997 made provision for a housing code, which elaborates on the transfer of ownership of government owned residential properties in towns and townships to approved beneficiaries. The housing code introduced the enhanced extended discount benefit scheme which aims to facilitate the transfer of public housing stock to qualifying beneficiaries. The shift in housing policy from the pre 1994 housing era, which provided citizens with a 99 years lease agreement scheme and rental of property meant that the citizens could not become owners of property.
The Department of Local Government and Housing will in the spirit of business unusual, be bringing about change in the lives of the people of the Limpopo province, with a total of 3 327 title deeds being handed over under the discount benefit scheme in the financial year 2008/09.
