Gauteng to host Provincial Inter-Cluster Games
26 August 2008
Magnitudes of young people across the province are expected to gather at Muckleneuck Stadium, Mamelodi in Tshwane to participate in the Provincial Inter-Cluster Games on the 30th of August 2008. Organised by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the games were launched in 2001 and this year promises to be bigger and better.
Participants will be competing in sporting codes such as soccer, netball and volleyball. About 124 participants from five clusters are expected to participate in this tournament. The programme of the day, which starts from 07h00 to 18h00, will also include cultural activities and the prize giving ceremony.
"These games provide the platform for greater participation in competitive and high performance sport such as South African Games to turn South African athletes into world class medal winners," said MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Barbara Creecy.
The department will be working closely with the federations in identifying talent as well as providing technical expertise to assist in the professional running of the games.
