Deputy President to attend a workshop with the Energy Champions

3 September 2008

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will join the Energy Champions at a two-day workshop to be held in Cape Town at the Lord Charles Hotel from Thursday, 4 to Friday, 5 September 2008.

Members of the media are invited on the second day for a photo opportunity and a media briefing at the conclusion of the workshop.

Amongst others the energy champions include soccer player Lucas Radebe, South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Blade Nzimande, former education minister Prof Kader Asmal, entertainer Zola 7, Bishop Lekganyana of the Zionist Christian Church (ZCC) and many others.

The Energy Champions were inaugurated in Sandton on 30 June 32008.

The work of the Energy Champions includes informing and educating the public about the importance of the efficient and responsible use of energy and other scarce resources such as water, helping to identify and overcome obstacles that the various communities/constituencies face in reducing electricity usage, communicating positive and open messages to South Africans to mitigate negative perceptions.
