Media Alert: News from Khanya: Western Cape Education Department

This is to inform you that Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) in collaboration with Western Cape Education Department's Khanya project and Metro Rail, decided to embark on a special adventure to celebrate Mathematics Week. Mathematics Week is celebrated throughout the country from 25 to 29 August.
On Monday, 25 August, at 8h30, MEC Yousuf Gabru will open the mathematics activities on board the EduTrain.
Place: Cape Town Station, Platforms 1 and 2
The programme for the week is as follows:
Monday: The destination will be Simons Town. Invited guests will include educators, maths curriculum advisors, local universities and other role players.
These guests will be involved in mathematics and statistics activities on board the train on the journey to and from the final destination. The purpose of the function is to increase the awareness and importance of mathematics within our schools.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Primary school learners will be on the train enjoying mathematics in a fun way.
Thursday and Friday: High school educators will be exposed to ways of teaching mathematics differently.
