Mpumalanga deliberates on housing challenges

25 August 2008

A number of housing delivery challenges will come under the spotlight this week in the Nkangala district in Mpumalanga. The Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing Candith Mashego-Dlamini will engage with housing stakeholders and deliberate on common challenges impeding housing delivery. The awarding of contracts to builders, good building standards, registration with authorised institutions and the quality of houses are among the key issues to be dealt with.

The housing stakeholder's workshop is a series of many the department is undertaking in creating an enabling environment between the department and service providers for better housing delivery. The session is also expected to reflect on improvements registered since the last session in Nelspruit where the MEC met contractors from all over the province.

The previous session committed on co-operation between municipalities in planning projects, transparency, adherence to proper procurement procedures and appointment of service providers. The engagements between all the parties are aimed at accelerating and provision to needy and deserving beneficiaries or communities. The session is scheduled as follows

Venue: Nkangala district offices, Middelburg
Date: 26 August 2008
