Premier Sello Moloto to lead a government mission to Namibia
20 August 2008
As part of efforts by the provincial government to strengthen regional economic integration, Limpopo Premier, Mr Sello Moloto will be leading a trade and government delegation to the Republic of Namibia this weekend. The Premier's delegation will depart South Africa on 23 August 2008 and return on 28 August 2008.
Whilst in Namibia, Premier Sello Moloto will take part in the festivities of the annual Ongwediva Trade Fair, where our province has been an active participant in the last two years. It should be remembered that Limpopo Provincial Government's exhibitors even won us an award in this Fair.
After the Ongwediva Trade Fair, the Premier will visit the town of Swakopmund, which is the seat of the Erongo Regional Council. The Erongo region of Namibia is renowned for its richness in fisheries and agricultural products amongst others. These remain some of the potential areas of collaboration with our province.
The visit by Premier Sello Moloto to Erongo region is a follow up to the mission which the Governor of Erongo, Mr SS Nuuyoma led to Limpopo in 2006.
The Premier expressed hope that the mission will be successful and leads to tangible benefits for the people of the province. This is because "South Africa and Namibia share a special historical bond which dates back many decades when both of us were involved in the protracted struggle against apartheid and colonialism".
"It is expected that this mission will cement this common heritage and also promote the existing cultural and economic ties between our two people", added Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto.
Whilst the Premier is away, the MEC for Education, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will be appointed acting Premier.
