Malibongwe Dialogue
19 August 2008
As the country convenes to celebrate women's month and the achievements of women, the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NM Foundation), National Youth Commission (NYC) and the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) will host the Malibongwe Dialogue Series for 2008 at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday, 22 August 2008. This follows a successful dialogue held by the NM Foundation last year with women veterans of the anti-apartheid struggle.
This time the Dialogue will take the form of an inter-generational gathering of women from South Africa and other African countries and representatives from various sectors, including the anti-apartheid struggle, young women, the business community, gender activists, media and other civil society groups. The dialogue will focus on values and economic empowerment of women, both in South Africa and the African continent.
It will speak on the maturation of the inter-generational exchange of values, principles and experiences between older and younger women. It will also look at re-kindling of inspiration, creativity and information sharing around deliberate dialogue, robust research, meaningful and fulfilling economic involvement by women.
