North West government plans ahead
19 August 2008
The political and administrative leadership of the North West, both at provincial and local government level, will meet at an Executive Council (EXCO) Lekgotla on 20 to 21 August 2008.
This strategic and high level meeting, which will take place in Rustenburg, is aimed at realigning the provincial programme of action with the national strategic framework and priorities. Lekgotla will also seek to formulate guidelines to overcome service delivery blockages and gaps
In attendance will be the Premier of the North West, Edna Molewa, MECs, Mayors, municipal managers, Heads of provincial departments and CEOs of parastatals. It is expected that the content of Lekgotla will take the form of a mid year review of the implementation of the government programme of action. This Lekgotla takes place within the context of the end of term of the current administration and will seek to inform the work of government in the period leading up to the ushering of the new executive after the elections.
In addition, Lekgotla will review the impact of government policies on society, assess economic growth and development in the province and identify major areas of focus for the future. Particular attention is expected to be paid on the comprehensive anti poverty strategy as well as strengthening the system of local government to discharge its mandate.
The outcome from these discussions should determine the parameters within which departments must prepare their Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) budgets.
