North West MEC for Public Works, Mr Jerry Thibedi will lead Indaba with Women in Construction
12 August 2008
Issues facing women contractors who do business with the North West Department of Public Works will come under the spotlight when the department holds an Indaba with Women in Construction in Phokeng, Rustenburg, on Thursday this week.
Taking the format of an imbizo, the event will allow contractors to interact directly with MEC Jerry Thibedi, Head of Department Obakeng Mongale and a panel of senior managers from the department.
Although male contractors are welcome to attend, the event is geared towards rooting out challenges that prevent the empowerment of women contractors as part of the Women’s Month commemorations. It also aims to sort out challenges that exist between the department and contractors so as to accelerate the delivery public building infrastructure.
The challenges include poor delivery on the part of contractors, non-adherence to scheduled timeframes by contractors and the department’s termination of contracts as a solution.
You are therefore humbly requested to send one of your journalists or photo journalists to cover this event.
The event will take place as follows:
Date: 14 August 2008
Time: 09h00
Venue: Bafokeng Civic Centre (Rustenburg)
The occasion will be followed by a gala dinner later in the evening at 18h00 for 18h30, where MEC Thibedi will pay tribute to the women contractors for their contribution in society.
