Re and new appointments to SITA Board
8 August 2008
Following Cabinet’s ordinary meeting on 6 August 2008, Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi has made re- and new appointments to the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) Board.
The three year terms of four SITA Board members, including the Chairperson, Ms Thenjiwe Chikane, expired on 3 August 2008 and another one is to expire on 31 August 2008. Ms Chikane indicated that she would not be available for re-appointment as Chairperson or as an ordinary Board member because of other professional commitments.
Following Cabinet’s concurrence, the Minister appointed a new Chairperson, Ms Zodwa Manase, and re-appointed another Board member whose term expired, as well as a member whose term is to expire on end August 2008. To expand the capacity of the Board according to the requirements of the SITA Act, two new Board members were appointed.
The following were appointed to the Board:
* re-appointments: Ms Zodwa Manase; Ms N Dhevcharran and Mr CCW Kruger
* newly appointed: Mr G Rothschild and Ms A van der Merwe.
Following these five appointments, the Board is now constituted as:

Ms M O Williams: Deputy Chairperson & non-executive; Department of Public Service and Administration’s representative
Ms C B Clark: Non-executive
Ms N Dhevcharran: Non-executive

Ms M Makhekhe-Mokhuane: Non-executive
Ms N Molope: Non-executive
Mr G Rothschild: Non-executive
Ms R Sekese: Non-executive

Minister Fraser-Moleketi thanks the outgoing Board members for their contribution to fulfilling the mandate of SITA.
Minister Fraser Moleketi has accepted SITA CEO Llewellyn Jones’ resignation, and Ms Femke Pienaar has taken over as acting CEO effective 1 August for a period of 14 days whilst the Board is consulting with the Minister on the acting position.
The Minister is awaiting the outcome of the SITA Board’s interrogation of all allegations which have been speculated on in recent media reports regarding his resignation.
SITA will now begin to fast-track the process of finding a permanent CEO for the organisation and the Board will be responsible for selecting and recommending a shortlist of candidates for the CEO position, while the final decision resides with Minister Fraser-Moleketi after consultation with Cabinet.
