MEC Padayachee to get an update on the R7,5 billion project

4 August 2008

MEC for Economic Development and Planning in Mpumalanga, Mr Craig Padayachee, will visit the sites of the R7,5 billion Douglas-Middelburg and the Klipspruit optimisation projects in the Nkangala region on Thursday, 7 August 2008.

The MEC will be updated on progress of the two coal mining projects.

Initial reports on the projects indicated that more than 5 500 jobs for small contractors will be created in the area. Earlier this year, MEC Padayachee indicated that the Douglas-Middelburg optimisation project is an important initiative that will translate into more jobs and that it will also assist with transfer of critical skills to the people.

MEC Padayachee performed the sod-turning of the Douglas-Middelburg project early this year (16 April 2008) when the project was officially launched. The projects are intended to develop and renew coal mines in the two areas.

Time: 09h00
