MEC for Roads and Transport, Jackson Mthembu requests God's grace on road safety

The Mpumalanga Department of Roads and Transport will host two events respectively aimed at reducing road accidents and maximising road safety awareness in the in the province.
The first event, a Provincial Road Safety Debate, will be staged on 1 August 2008 at Embalenhle Sasol Recreation Club in Secunda. The debate will allow school learners in the province to research and debate about road safety. The informative activity was initiated in 2003 after the 2002 road accidents statistics which were highly dominated by mortality rate of young road users between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
The second event, a Provincial Prayer function, will be staged on 2 August 2008, at Kanyamazane stadium. This is where the department in conjunction with various stakeholders will invite God's intervention through prayers to reduce road accidents in the province. The stakeholders will invite God's intervention through prayer to reduce road accidents in the province.
The stakeholders entail various churches, prominent gospel artists, public transport operators, road accident victims, and community members. The prayer day event will be graced by gospel artists such Avante, Rebecca Malope, Masibuyele KuJehovah.
