What: Launch of the Partnership for Primary Healthcare
When: Tuesday, 5 August 2008, 10h00
Where: Hall of Fame, Rheederpark, Welkom
Who: The MEC for Health, Mr Sakhiwo Belot, will deliver the keynote address. Representatives from the European Union will also be present.
Why: The Free State: Department of Health has adopted a new strategy for the funding of non-profit organisations (NPOs); the NPOs will now be funded for a period of three years while we used to fund for one year.
The European Union made R5 million available for the current financial year, of which we will fund 48 NPOs. The other NPOs will be capacitated to reach the level we need them on for partnership, e.g. we need all NPO partners to have Board Members and offices.
The 48 NPOs are from our five districts:
* Xhariep: six
* Lejweleputswa: 10
* Motheo: 13
* Thabo Mofutsanyana: 13
* Fezile Dabi: six
They will be rendering PHC services, covering the following:
* health promotion
* home based care (HBC)
* integrated management of childhood illness
* prevention of mother to child transmission
* tuberculosis (TB)
* nutrition
* voluntary counselling and testing
* mental health.
