Hand-over of two tractors

30 July 2008

The integration of services is the key in ensuring that service delivery reaches all the country’s citizens and the Department of Agriculture, led by its MEC Gugile Nkwinti, has been forging these relations with municipalities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector and other government departments.

It is in this breath that the department with the Buffalo City Municipality will mark the start of the commemorations of Women’s Month in style when the municipality hands over two tractors to projects where women make up about 65%.

The department prides itself on its involvement in the establishment of these projects that help poor communities in rural areas, especially women empowerment and it is dedicated to working with all stakeholders in its bid to conquer poverty and starvation. In its bid to empower women, the department has spearheaded the formation of the Women in Rural Development and Agriculture (WARD), whose president recently enticed lots of interest when she visited China and the United States of America (USA).

It is a humble honour as the department to be involved in a development of this nature where the municipality is empowering women by giving them the necessary resources to improve their lives. The MEC has been urging women to be part of the Siyazondla homestead gardens programme, where rural women are given skills, implements and other inputs.

You are cordially invited to attend this august event.
