The Minister for Agriculture and Land Affairs Ms Lulu Xingwana would like to invite members of the media to the National Agri Consultation (on land and agrarian reform) to be held in Limpopo from 30 July to 1 August 2008.

The consultation follows the provincial ones (the Gauteng one was called Food Summit) held over the past two weeks with some being held this week. The purpose of the consultation is to bring together all stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including other sectors in support of agriculture, to address challenges facing agriculture today, including high food prices, food insecurity, poverty etc., and to come up with practical solutions.

Different stakeholders, including farmer unions, civil society and government departments will be in attendance. The Deputy President Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is also expected to deliver an address.

The consultation happens amid the problems of the global rise in food and fuel prices which has an impact in doing agricultural business and overcoming food insecurity.
