North West to honour heroes in community development

21 July 2008

The North West Premier, Edna Molewa and MEC for the Department of Social Development will recognise the loyalty, dedication and unwavering commitment of men and women who dedicated their work freely to contribute towards the development of their communities, during the Community Builder of the Year.

These men and women will be acknowledged for the considerable role they played and continue to play and the vital contributions they have made towards improving the quality of life within their communities in areas such as education, information and communication technology (ICT), sport and recreation, environment and crime prevention.

The Community Builder of the Year Awards is one of the eleven National Building Projects which were started thirteen years ago by the late Dr Aggrey Klaaste, seeking to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and nation building. Therefore the Department will host the Community Builder of the Year Awards ceremony. The aim of the event is to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of diverse individuals and groups towards the upliftment of South African communities.

Winners from the provincial event would then represent the province during the National Community Builder of the Year Awards.

The nominees will be chosen under the youth, senior, adult, women and group categories.

The media is therefore invited to cover the event to be held as follows:

Date: 25 July 2008
Time: 18h00
Venue: Madiba Banquet Hall in Potchefstroom (Tlokwe Local Municipality)

Your presence will be highly appreciated.
